The iPad Phenomenon
The views on the Apple iPad are as varied and controversial as on any popular consumer product released in recent memory. It has more in common with the iPod touch or an iPhone than with a laptop or a tablet computer. Are there enough new features and apps to establish a new category? Will it create a paradigm shift? Where will it compete?
For me the game changer has little to do with computing and traditional applications. The iPad is ideal for consuming digital media of all sorts. One of the best demonstrations that I have seen of this to date, is a proof of concept created by Adobe in cooperation with Wired Magazine:
So the reason I posted the above example from Adobe is to highlight what is possible on the iPad, if Apple were to ever make peace with Adobe and support Flash. One of my previous posts highlighted the battle between HTML5 and Flash. Google will likely support Flash on their tablet PC when it is introduced later this year. In my opinion, it will take years for HTML5 to duplicate the functionality of Flash. Even if Flash is ultimately doomed ( and I would suggest otherwise, because Adobe is a very innovative company) it will take a minimum of ten years.
